Minneola (Late Harvest Tangelo)
This cross between a dancy tangerine and a grapefruit is picked late in the season when it is at its maximum sugar content and flavour. W.T. Swingle and others developed the Minneola Tangelo, one of the worlds widest grown citrus hybrids, 1931, at the USDA facility in Florida. Almost seedless, it has the distinctive rich aroma and combination sweet/tart flavour. You will need a napkin when eating this fruit because it is so sweet and juicy.
