The Green Aisle

Our stores and distribution centres are at the forefront of our sustainability activities as we strive to manage and reduce power consumption while improving waste diversion and recycling practices in our stores. Our goal is to reduce our Green House Gas Emission (GHG) intensity by 15% by 2013.

In May 2011, Thrifty Foods announced our Strategic Energy Management Policy (SEMP) as a part of our Earth Day celebrations. The SEMP outlines our commitment to work toward reducing our energy consumption at all locations by 13% and our overall carbon footprint by 15% by the year 2013.

The SEMP included a pledge to reduce our carbon emissions due to refrigerant gas leaks by 12 per cent and by a further 3 per cent by implementing energy conservation measures our facilities by 2013. Both will lower our GHG equivalent refrigerant gases while improving our energy monitoring and awareness. These steps mark an important milestone in our advancement toward a sustainable future.
