    Thrifty Foods is committed to the development of our employees. In order to provide development opportunities in the Meat Department and to prepare for company expansion, we need qualified, trained Meat Cutters. Thrifty Foods has designed its own customized Meat Cutter Apprenticeship Program to help support these needs. Successful applicants will work a minimum of 32 hours per week in the Meat Department applying their new skills. Upon completion of the program, the apprentice will be assigned the position of Pay Grade 2 Meat Cutter; current part or full time status will remain the same. Graduates from the training program will form part of the Thrifty Foods Talent Pool. When a Pay Grade 3 position vacancy is identified in the Meat Deparment, participants from the Talent Pool will be short listed for an interview. Once an apprentice has worked the required number of hours, they will be assisted in challenging the Government Trade qualification exam to obtain their Journeyperson certification. Training will take place at various Lower Mainland locations. The program is 2 years in length and anticipated to begin late October 2010.
