Thrifty Foods changing the labeling of Pork Products
While all pork products sold at Thrifty Foods are of the highest available quality and safety, it has recently been brought to our attention that they may not conform to the standards by which we can describe them as "Traditional" Pork.
"Traditional" Pork defines pork that has never been exposed to antibiotics; that has been grain fed; and that has not received animal by-products in their feed regimen. A representative of our pork supplier has advised Thrifty Foods that some antibiotics may, in fact, have been used in the initial stages of the animals' life (although not in the finishing diet); and that animal by-product such as tallow may have been a part of their feed regimen at some point.
While these conditions do not, in any way, diminish or affect the high quality of the pork products we sell, they do prohibit us from describing them as "Traditional". Therefore, effective immediately, Thrifty Foods will remove the word "Traditional" from all signage and labeling surrounding the sale of pork products throughout our stores.
This situation applies only to Thrifty Foods' "Traditional" pork and does not affect other Thrifty Foods "Traditional" products such as our "Traditional" Beef and "Traditional" Turkey, which do conform to the standards governing this definition.
