Prep Time: 15 minutes
Cooking Time: about 8 minutes
Makes: 4 servings
Method:
Heat the oil in a pot over medium-low. Add the onions and cook, stirring, until very tender and sticky, about 10 minutes. Remove from the heat. Grill the burgers over medium to medium-high until entirely cooked through, about 4 minutes per side. Top with the cheese and onions; cook 1 minute more. Spread the buns with mayonnaise; top the bottom bun with lettuce and tomatoes. Set on the burgers and top buns and serve.
What to serve alongside:
To make these rich burgers even richer, serve the burger with the crispy, French-style potatoes featured in this website recipe: Pepper-crusted Strip Loin Medallions with Crispy Oven Frites. For a lighter approach, serve the burgers with organic mixed greens dressed with your favourite salad dressing and topped with sliced, raw vegetables, such as bell pepper, carrot, cucumber and radish.
Options:
Instead of Alex Campbell Signature Series (ACSS) Beef burgers, use ACSS Turkey Burgers. Use white or Spanish onions instead of red onions. Try a stronger blue-veined cheese on these burgers, such as gorgonzola or Stilton. Use a whole-wheat burger or kaiser buns instead of white buns.
