- Thrifty Foods is pleased to announce they will sponsor a Food for Families Program throughout all stores again this year.
Until January 5 in all Thrifty Foods stores, customers can add a $10 or $20 Food for Families Coupon to a grocery order and support a local food bank the whole year through. In 2008, more than $265,000 was raised and donated to local food banks in all Thrifty Foods communities.
"Each contribution supports the food bank in the community where it is donated," says Danny Robertson, Promotions Manager, Thrifty Foods. "We have 17 food banks that will receive the donations raised at our 22 stores on Vancouver Island, Salt Spring Island and in the Lower Mainland."
At the end of the promotion, the money collected will be transferred onto Smile Cards for the food banks to use. The Food for Families Program gives the food banks greater flexibility to purchase food items most in demand. They also save on a need to store inventory and can purchase fresh, nutritious items as required throughout the year.
"Thrifty Foods started Food for Families in 2004 with pre-packed bags of groceries," says Robertson. "We improved the program with coupons that are transferred to Smile Cards so the food banks receive help as they need it, as the need exists 365 days a year."
