- Thrifty Foods welcomes Bob Blumer, host of Food Network's "Glutton for Punishment" and "The Surreal Gourmet", to the Thrifty Foods Tuscany Village Cooking and Lifestyle Centre for a complimentary meet and greet on Sunday, February 13 at 1PM.
"The opportunity to meet Bob is a must for any Victoria-area foodie," says Ralf Mundel, Director of Marketing for Thrifty Foods. "With over twenty years of surreal food experiences and adventures to draw upon, we are excited to have another award-winning chef join us at our interactive cooking studio at the Thrifty Foods Tuscany Village location."
Blumer will talk creative cuisine and share his food adventures as well as his broadcast, and publishing experiences - his latest book "Glutton for Pleasure" will be available for purchase - while fielding questions from keen would-be chefs and fervent gourmets from around the Island and Lower Mainland.
"To me, every recipe embodies the fundamentals of my foodie philosophy," said Blumer. "Recipes should be made from common ingredients brought to life with a liberal infusion of fresh herbs and spices, they should require very little in the way of technology or expertise and ultimately, be very forgiving."
Bob will share stories with registered guests on the origins of Coconut Shrimp Lollypops, Dishwasher-Poached Salmon, Cauliflower Popcorn, and Lamb Cupcakes as well as tips on everything from the cook's pantry to the selection of music best suited to each culinary technique.
From a single store opening in Victoria's Fairfield community in 1977, Thrifty Foods has grown to a chain of twenty-six locations throughout Vancouver Island and the BC Lower Mainland. Along the way, it has become Vancouver Island's largest private sector employer, with over 4,600 employees, and one of Canada's most respected grocery brands.
