Leading Grocery Retailer to Open Store in Revitalized Maple Ridge Mall
Victoria, BC, February 21, 2011
- Thrifty Foods announced today that they have finalized a lease agreement with CB Richard Ellis (CBRE) for a 35,000 square foot grocery store in the soon-to-be-revitalized Haney Place Mall.
"The opportunity to locate one of our stores with our flagship fresh departments in the heart of Maple Ridge is cause for celebration," said Jim Dores, President of Thrifty Foods. "Since 1977, we have dedicated ourselves to getting involved in our communities while providing exceptional customer service and a great food shopping experience."
Haney Place Mall is a 200,000 square foot, enclosed shopping centre - centrally located on the north side of Lougheed Highway, between 224th and 226th Streets - in the heart of Maple Ridge's commercial core.
Acting on behalf of Narland Properties, a western Canadian based real estate management company, CBRE anticipates that the renovations will be complete by late 2011, provided all of the necessary approvals are granted and construction proceeds on schedule.
"Thrifty Foods is an integral piece in the revitalization of the town centre and will become an anchor in the community," said Chris Sherry - one of the principals of Narland Properties. "As a community-focused retailer, Thrifty Foods complements our existing tenant base and their presence in the town centre is guaranteed to transform the area."
The current retail space will undergo an extensive renovation to accommodate Thrifty Foods' customer-centric store design and signature fresh departments. These include an extensive array of organic fruits and vegetables, local and international cheeses, a sushi bar and live seafood tank.
As part of the lease transaction, Haney Place Mall will undergo significant upgrades to its exterior, entrances, and parking area prior to the doors opening at Thrifty Foods in 2012. Located adjacent to arts and leisure facilities as well as complementary commercial tenants, the location is expected to become the focal point of commerce for downtown Maple Ridge.
The Maple Ridge Thrifty Foods store will represent the eighth location on the Lower Mainland, which includes the opening of Sapperton in New Westminster in 2011, and the twenty-eighth store for the chain since 1977. Thrifty Foods has become Vancouver Island's largest private sector employer, with over 4,600 employees, and one of Canada's most respected grocery brands. Thrifty Foods is now a proud member of the Sobeys group of companies. For more information, visit www.thriftyfoods.com.
