Shopping Spree Helps Feed Families at White Rock/South Surrey Food Bank

VICTORIA, BC - Thrifty Foods Store Manager Mark Breier, White Rock/South Surrey Food Bank Executive Director David Young, Infiniti Wealth Management President Kash Chaudhri and Pasco Seafood Enterprises owner Jason Ogilvie joined Alex Burrows and Mason Raymond for a cheque presentation for over $5,500 following a high speed shopping spree through the aisles of the Thrifty Foods Morgan Crossing location.

"Thrifty Foods is serious about fighting hunger in our communities," says Thrifty Foods President Jim Dores. "Our special guests surprised our customers and staff with their enthusiasm, and their presence in our store today helps create awareness about those in need in our communities at this time of year and throughout it."

Burrows and Raymond each spent exactly 2 minutes flying through the aisles with eyes sharp for substantial and nutritious staples for kids and their families in the White Rock and South Surrey area.

"Helping out the local food bank is a no-brainer with winter coming on and we were happy to participate," says Alex Burrows. "We pushed it as hard as we could and got our shopping carts filled up with over $5,500 in groceries for the food bank - definitely raised a few eyebrows in the checkout line, too!"

Thrifty Foods has been feeding the hungry for over 15 years. This includes BC Sharing, a year-round program, and Food for Families, available at tills in November and December each year. Participating customers purchase coupons in various cash denominations and Thrifty Foods donates the funds directly to 16 food banks across BC. To date, Thrifty Foods has raised over $650,000 in groceries for those in need in our communities.

Thrifty Foods was founded in 1977 in Victoria, BC. Today, Thrifty Foods, a banner of Sobeys Inc., has a total of 27 retail grocery stores across the Lower Mainland and throughout Vancouver Island.
