October 23, 2012
Energy Manager Acknowledged For Implementing Over 100 Energy-Efficiency Projects

VICTORIA, BC - Thrifty Foods today announced that Jerry Wyshnowsky, Thrifty Foods Director of Energy and the Environment, was awarded the Power Smart Excellence Award for his role as a Power Smart Energy Manager at the biannual BC Hydro Power Smart Awards held October 18 at the Vancouver Convention Centre.

"With Jerry leading the charge in his role as Director of Energy and the Environment, we have implemented over 100 energy-efficiency projects, saving us 12.5 gigawatt hours; 5.8 gigawatt hours saved in 2010-2011 alone," said Jim Dores, General Manager of Thrifty Foods. "Each green project moves us closer to our goal of reducing our Greenhouse Gas Emission (GHG) intensity by 15 per cent by 2013."

The Award recognizes that, over the last two years, Thrifty Foods has implemented an Energy Management Policy, which commits the organization to $5.8 million in future green projects between now and 2014. Wyshnowsky was also recognized for partnering with BC Hydro Outreach on 12 Power Smart employee engagement events over the last year. The events provided 600 staff and customers with information about workplace conservation and energy-efficiency updates.

Held during Power Smart month, the celebration is a bi-annual province-wide recognition event that recognizes energy conservation leadership from organizations in the commercial, government, industrial and retail sectors. For more information, visit
