Kids at Camp Thanks to Thrifty Foods Customers

Organic Buck Brand Orange Donations Benefit Easter Seals Camp Goers

Victoria, B.C. - BC Lions Society for Children with Disabilities President and CEO Stephen Miller, Buck Brand Citrus Owner Lisle Babcock, and a group of Easter Seals camp goers and Thrifty Foods team members gathered at Camp Shawnigan today to officially complete the 'I [Heart] Camp' fundraiser supporting kids attending Easter Seals camps in both Shawnigan and Squamish.

"We want to thank the Thrifty Foods customers who worked together to send children with disabilities into a life-changing summer camp experience," said Babcock. "Both Thrifty Foods and Buck Brand are deeply grateful for this support."

From February 5 until February 25 of this year, Thrifty Foods donated $1 from every 4-pound bag of certified organic Buck Brand Citrus navel oranges to the BC Lions Society for Children with Disabilities. Over the course of three weeks, Thrifty Foods customers raised over $62,000 - all of which went toward camp registration fees at Squamish and Shawnigan. Those camps have now opened.

"Without these generous donations, some children with disabilities could not gain access to Easter Seals camp," said Miller. "Camp is about making sure kids in our communities are celebrated for their strengths. Whether attacking the 30-foot climbing wall or making new friends on the giant team swing, these experiences are game-changers for the kids and their families."

Thrifty Foods has been proudly supporting the BC Lions Society for Children with Disabilities for over 20 years - notably through sponsorship of the Victoria 24 Hr Relay, Vancouver 24 Hr Relay, Victoria Regatta, Vancouver Regattas, and through the purchase of works of art in our communities.
