B.C.'s Local Producers Share Fresh Food and Fresh Ideas
Victoria, B.C. -
Thrifty Foods staff and Senior Director of Operations Ralf Mundel hosted Kildara Farms Grower David Hughes, the Esposito family from Benjamin's Bites, B.C. producers, and food enthusiasts in Broadmead Saturday to mix local expertise with food passion. The crowd enjoyed sampling freshly-baked cookies from Benjamin's Bites and certified organic salad greens from Kildara farms, among many other local B.C. products.
"We Pick BC First is how Thrifty Foods does business," said Mundel. "Providing our customers with choices and high quality products is important, as is supporting our communities. When we can bring those two things together - local producers supplying great products to our customers - it's a win-win for everybody."
Thrifty Foods has partnered with local producers since it first opened its doors in 1977. These partnerships continue to grow in number and in size across B.C.
"Being local, and able to connect with our customers is important to us," said Hughes. "People are interested in where their food comes from. They are interested in who is making it, and how it is made. They want to be involved."
The market-style event also featured fresh B.C. Sockeye Salmon, and a cook-off between Chef Brandon from the Beach House, Chef Andy from the Med Grill, and Captain Wild Bill from Discovery Channel's Deadliest Catch.
All 26 Thrifty Foods stores provide products from B.C. producers in all departments: Meat, Seafood, Bakery, Grocery, Bulk and the Deli. We Pick BC First is a promise founded on valuing communities, and supporting them.
