How to Make Sangria Granita

How to Make Sangria Granita
Granita is a coarse-textured, sorbet-like dessert flavoured with ingredients used in sangria.

Step 1

Place 1 cup red wine and 1/3 cup granulated sugar in a small pot and bring to a boil. Boil 1 minute to dissolve sugar. Remove pot from heat. Mix in 1/3 cup orange juice, 1/4 cup water and 2 Tbsp. lemon juice. Pour mixture into 8” square pan and cool to room temperature.

Step 2

Set pan in the freezer for 2 1/2 to 3 hours, stirring the wine mixture with a fork every 30 minutes. When you do, make sure to scrape the frozen crystals off the sides of the pan, moving them towards the middle. When the granita is ready, small crystals of the frozen sangria mixture will fill the pan and be quite light in texture.

Step 3

Cover the pan with plastic wrap and freeze overnight. When ready to serve, scrape and mix the granita with a fork again. Scoop into a bowls and serve, garnished with mint and sliced orange. Makes 4 to 6 servings.
