Place the wine, sugar, cinnamon and lemon rind and juice in a pot. Bring to a simmer, stirring to dissolve the sugar. Add the fruit; cover and bring back to a simmer. Cook 2 to 3 minutes, then remove from the heat and cool at room temperature. Refrigerate the fruit in the syrup overnight, then its ready to serve.

Serving Suggestions

For breakfast or brunch, serve the poached fruit with yogurt or on waffles or pancakes. For dinner, serve the fruit with baked ham or roast leg of pork. The fruit served with a scoop or two of premium vanilla ice cream would make a fine dessert.
