Preheat the oven to 325 degrees F. Set the ribs, meaty side up, in a single layer in a roasting pan. Pour in the apple juice; season with salt and pepper. Cover and bake 90 minutes, or until tender.

While the ribs cook, make the sauce by placing the remaining ingredients, except cornstarch and water, in a medium-sized pot. Gently simmer over medium heat 10 minutes. Puree the mixture in a blender, food processor or with a hand-held immersion blender. Return the sauce to a simmer. Mix the cornstarch and water together in a small bowl and stir into the cherry mixture. Simmer until it’s lightly thickened, then remove from heat.

When tender, remove the ribs from the oven and uncover. Preheat barbeque to medium heat. Grill the ribs a few minutes on either side. Turn the ribs meaty side up and brush with some of the cherry barbeque sauce. Cook them a few minutes more to heat the sauce through. Serve any leftover sauce at the table for drizzling on the ribs.
