How to Make an Affogato

Affogato is an Italian word that means drowned. In this simple, divine dessert, ice cream is what gets “drowned” by freshly brewed espresso.

Step 1

Brew espresso or very strong coffee. You’ll need 2 ounces for every affogato.

Step 2

For each affogato, place 2 scoops of vanilla ice cream in a chilled shallow glass serving cup or small glass coffee cup. Pour 2 ounces of hot espresso or strongly brewed coffee over ice cream.

Step 3

Top ice cream with shaved chocolate and toasted, skinned and coarsely chopped hazelnuts, sliced almonds or walnuts.
