How to Make Salted Caramel Sauce

Serve this decadent sauce on ice cream, cheesecake, waffles, pumpkin pie and baked apples.

Step 1

Place 1 cup granulated sugar with ¼ cup water in a small to medium pot. Set over medium heat, bring to a simmer and cook, without stirring, until mixture is like golden corn syrup in colour, about 10-13 minutes.

Step 2

Remove pot from heat. Very, very slowly dribble and whisk in ½ cup whipping cream. (Don’t quickly add cream or mixture may bubble over). Now whisk in 2 Tbsp. soft butter, 1 tsp. vanilla extract and ¾ tsp. kosher or coarse sea salt.

Step 3

Serve this salted caramel sauce warm or at room temperature in the ways noted in the introduction. Makes 1 cup.
