Step 1

Preheat oven to 400˚F. Core 2 large apples, such as Gala, Fuji or Honeycrisp. Cut each apple into 8 wedges and set in a bowl. Add 1 Tbsp. lemon juice, 1/4 tsp. ground cinnamon and some pinches of ground nutmeg, ground clove and salt. Now toss to coat the apples.

Step 2

Place 2 Tbsp. butter in a large ovenproof skillet and set over medium-high heat. When butter is melted, set the apple wedges in the skillet, cut side down, and cook 3 minutes. Turn each apple wedge over and then remove skillet from the heat. Measure 2 Tbsp. of brown sugar and sprinkle some of it on each apple wedge. Tear a few fresh sage leaves in half and set them around the apples. Set skillet in the oven and roast apples 10 minutes, or until just tender.

Step 3

Serve the roasted apples as a side dish for such things as our Thrifty Kitchens sausages. You could also serve them with pork chops, roast pork and baked ham.
