How to Make Signature Sauces

Use classic condiments, such as ketchup, relish and mustard, as the base for a signature sauce you can use on your favourite barbecued foods.

Secret Burger Sauce

Make this “restaurant-style” burger spread by combing 1/2 cup mayonnaise, 1/4 cup ketchup, 1 Tbsp. yellow mustard, 1/4 cup green relish, 1/2 tsp. garlic powder, 1/2 tsp. paprika and black pepper, to taste. Makes about 1 cup.

Curry Ketchup

In a bowl combine 1 cup ketchup, 1 Tbsp. mild or hot curry powder and 1 tsp. each paprika, Worcestershire sauce, honey, lime juice and orange juice. Use this bold tasting ketchup on burgers and hot dogs or as a dip for fries or grilled cheese sandwiches. Makes about 1 1/8 cups.

Carolina-style Mustard Barbecue Sauce

In a bowl combine 1/2 cup prepared mustard, 1/4 cup cider vinegar, 1/4 cup brown sugar, 1 Tbsp. ketchup, 1 tsp. each Tabasco and Worcestershire sauce, 1/2 tsp. garlic powder and black pepper, to taste. Use this Southern-style sauce on ribs, pulled pork, chicken and sausages. Makes about 1 cup.
