Butter one side of each bread slice. Top the unbuttered side of 4 of the bread slices with a slice of cheese and 2 or 3 slices of ham. Top the ham with an equal amount of apple slices. Top the apples with another slice of the cheese. Top the cheese with the other slices of bread, buttered side up.

Set a large, non-stick skillet over medium heat. Add the sandwiches and cook 3 minutes per side, or until the cheese is melted and the bread is nicely toasted. Slice the sandwiches in half or quarters and serve.

Note: Sliced cheddar cheese is available in the deli.

Serving Suggestions

Round out this healthy sandwich of grains, dairy, protein and fruit, by serving some raw vegetables alongside, such as mini carrots, bell pepper and celery sticks.
