Preheat oven to 325 degrees F. Set the ribs meaty side up in a single layer in shallow sided roasting pan. Sprinkle with salt and pepper. Pour in the apple juice. Cover and bake 1 hour 40 minutes, or until ribs are tender.

While the ribs cook, make sauce by combining the remaining ingredients, except green onion, in small to medium pot. Bring to a simmer and cook 10 minutes. Remove sauce from the heat and reserve.

When the ribs have cooked 1 hour 40 minutes, remove from the oven. Increase the oven temperature to 375 degrees F.

Uncover the ribs and baste with half the sauce. Set back in the oven and bake, uncovered, 15 minutes. Baste with remaining sauce and bake 15 minutes more, or until nicely glazed and delicious. Arrange ribs on plates, sprinkle with green onion, if using, and serve.

Recipe Options: Instead of pork back ribs, use two and half to three pounds of pork side ribs in this recipe. For darker looking barbecue sauce, add 2 Tbsp. cooking molasses to the mix of ingredients used to make it. Make dark beer barbecue sauce by replacing the root beer with an equal amount of your favourite dark lager, ale or stout.
