Preheat the oven 375˚F. Place the oil in an ovenproof pot (the one used in this recipe was 8” wide and 4” tall) and set over medium, medium-high heat. When hot, add the onion and garlic and cook until softened, about 4 minutes. Add the next 7 ingredients and whisk to combine. Mix in the beans and ham. Bring the beans to a simmer. Simmer beans, uncovered, 10 minutes on the stovetop. Now cover and bake the beans in the oven for 25 to 30 minutes, and then serve.
